Prayer Ministry
Jesus said, "Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them" (Matthew 18:20, NRSV).
Intercessory Prayer is encouraged during the worship services each Sunday morning and each and every day in our lives. There is a Prayer List published each week and everyone is encouraged to pray over the Prayer List at home or meet with an Intercessory Prayer Group. This is a ministry for everyone in the church.
Prayer Vigils are planned before special worship events, for mission trips and at special times of the year.
Praying for FRAN:
F.R.A.N. stands for Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, and Neighbors. F.R.A.N. is a convenient memory device to encourage Christians to share God's love with those four groups of people. Most of us know the names and faces of the people in the first three categories, but what about the fourth category - neighbors?
These days, it is not unusual for us to ask, "Who is my neighbor?" If we don't know our neighbors, where do we begin? The answer is simple and ambitious: JUST PRAY! Prayer helps us develop compassion for others. This is not a generic plea simply to ask God to bless our unknown, unnamed neighbor. Join us for a more interactive approach that leads to caring interaction with others, in the name of Christ.
Take Prayer to Your Neighbors
Let people in your neighborhood know you pray for them. Send a card or two daily letting someone know you have prayed for them or that your church is praying for them. Cards are available in the church office for this very purpose, or, create your own.
Invite people to share their prayer requests with your church. Include a card that has the contact information for your church and a place to write prayer requests and the way that the prayer request will be received (for example, regular mail, e-mail, picking up the request from them and bringing it to the office for them).
Place prayer boxes in businesses in your community. A prayer box simply contains wording to invite people to write prayer requests and drop them in the box. You may wish to provide a pencil or pen and paper. Collect the prayer requests regularly and share them with our prayer volunteers.
